Personal Statement: The OSU Urban Horticulture Research & Extension Experience for Undergraduates (REEU) is intended to introduce undergraduates to the world of horticulture sciences and agricultural research. This program is especially for students from groups that are under-represented in the academy including racial and ethnic minorities, low-income and first-generation students, and non-traditional students. The personal statement is your opportunity to explain why you want to participate in the OSU Urban Horticulture REEU. Some questions you might consider:

- What are your career goals?
- In what ways have your experiences and background influenced your goals?
- How will the REEU help you accomplish your goals?
- What do you expect to gain from the REEU experience?

As part of this program, you will be teamed up with a researcher and be given responsibility over a prepared research project. Please rank the list of research topics in order of your most preferred (1) to your least preferred (13). If completed correctly, each topic should receive a unique number from 1 to 13.

Pecan Production Physiology (study carbohydrate partitioning within pecans from across the US)
Food Quality and Extraction Science (study factors influencing food nutrient quality)
Food Safety (conduct research and extension activities related to food safety in Oklahoma).
Field Vegetable Production (study factors influencing vegetable yield in a field setting)
Greenhouse Production (study factors related to ornamental and vegetable production including hydroponics)
Cover Crops (develop demonstration plots, online training modules, and workshops pertaining to cover crops in the Great Plains)
Turfgrass Science (conduct research pertaining to management of lawns, sports fields, and golf courses)
Outreach and Youth Education (help lead horticulture youth camps as well as school garden Extension trainings for teachers and Extension educators)
Public Gardens and Landscape Management (study the effects of various management techniques on plants in a public garden)
Plant Pathology (learn how pathogens influence pecans, ornamentals, fruits, and vegetables)
